Almost
as inevitable as a wet August following a hot July, Essential R&B's
Summer collection is with us. Taking the best urban tracks of the past 6
months or so, this compilation is a real who’s who on the current
scene. B.O.B. takes the rightful spot at the top of CD1, with artists
like Usher, Alicia Keys and Chipmunk not far behind. The American
hardcore soon follows with Pitbull and Flo Rida weighing in to add some
weight to this CD. It goes a bit weak at the end with Ciara and JT being
included (how old) and it all closes with Whitney Houston's comeback
track 'Million Dollar Bill', although it does at least have a Frankie
Knuckles overhaul.
CD2 has a good Brit offering, with Leona
Lewis, JLS, Alexandra Burke and Lemar all holding their own. Elsewhere
Britney makes a surprise inclusion with '3', even more surprising is
Summertime from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (AKA Will Smith)
with another re-working of this seminal, but now 20+ years old (?)
track. CD2 is slightly weaker, but there are enough good tunes to keep
with happy, armed with a remote control for the skipping!
